I'm not a serial reader. I'm quite the opposite, even when I like books, I'm usually glad I can dive into another world next. However, having finished the first book in the St. Mary's series, Just One Damned Thing After The Other, I couldn't resist and immediately started the second book (and after that, the rest of the series).
The world is amazing. It is super British, very witty, filled with loads of tea and time-travel, or 'investigating major historical events in contemporary time'. Time-travel has always fascinated me, and although the phenomenon of it is not explained, they use it to study history. Max, the main character, is a lot of fun to read about, as she and some of her colleagues have a great talent for getting into trouble.
While this all remained in the second book, there were some changes compared to the first book. It starts with allowing more interaction between St. Mary's and the History. Also, some rules don't always seem to apply. A final thing is that it takes a bit of a jump into the paranormal, which is never fully explained, and they don't go into it any more later in the story. This confused me a bit.
But, it was wonderful reading, and I look forward to the rest of it!
